Yasi Hemmat is a Kansas City native and has been playing violin for as long as she can remember. While her background is in classical music, she has expanded her repertoire in recent years to include other genres including rock, folk and old-time fiddle.
Her current project is in solo performance with live looping. She draws on inspiration from her diverse background, from listening to family play bluegrass music in rural Missouri, to hearing Farsi spoken by her Iranian father. After living in New Orleans for 6 years, she now incorporates the washboard and French vocals into her music.
